5 Advantages of Buying a Franchise

Advantages of Buying a Franchise
At Pinot & Picasso, we’ve seen firsthand the benefits of being a franchise. From our ongoing guidance to our franchise network to being cost-effective, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Here are the five advantages of buying a franchise!

WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK

The massive benefit of franchising is that you won’t ever feel like you’re on your own. That’s one of the scary things about starting your own business. Pinot & Picasso offers the independence you desire for a small business, but the support from HQ will always be there.

We like to think our franchise network is one of the best aspects of our company. Not only is our HQ team supportive, but our franchisees are always there to offer advice, tips and support. They’ve all been in the same position of opening a studio and are encouraging your small business’s success.

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY

You don’t need to be a qualified business owner or have worked in the arts industry to operate a Pinot & Picasso studio. Our HQ team offers extensive training when you sign your final franchise agreement. From onboarding, local area marketing and website training, you’ll feel like your own boss in no time!

The training doesn’t stop there. Our HQ team runs webinars and organises monthly meetings to ensure you make the most of your small business throughout the year, especially during our busy periods like Christmas and Mother’s Day!

A KEY TO SUCCESS

In business circles, franchises have a higher success rate than start-up businesses. This doesn’t mean triumphs are guaranteed. We like to say you get out of your business what you put in.

While we provide you with the recipe for operating your studio and ongoing support, we love seeing our franchises come into their own as business owners and make the most of the opportunity. This is why many franchise owners turn this investment into a passion.

COST-EFFECTIVE, WE LIKE THAT

One of the big bonuses of franchising is that it can cost less than starting your own business in the same field. It knows that you’re investing your money into a business model that works and can give you peace of mind and motivation.

While we admire start-ups (we were one back in the day!), we’re proud of how our franchise ROI is, on average, 12 months, and our franchisees can start making profits from their studio.

REPUTATION

Reputation can be seen as a negative, depending on who you are. Still, we believe our combination of rapid growth and our unique and exciting entertainment experience bids us a positive reputation.

With over 70 studios across Australia and New Zealand in three years of franchising, we believe our reputation comes down to our successful digital business model, proven management and work practices and supportive HQ team.

Why Pinot & Picasso is the perfect side hustle

Paint and Sip Side Hustle

Side hustles are becoming more of the norm that we may realise. What can often start as a small hobby that can help you make money on the side, has transformed into a lifetime investment changing peoples’ way of life.

At Pinot & Picasso, we’ve seen this happen. Many franchisees purchase a Pinot & Picasso studio as a side investment while still working full-time in their field. This side hustle has soon become their passion and drive for getting out of bed in the morning.

There are plenty of reasons why Pinot & Picasso could be the side hustle you’ve been looking for, and don’t worry – we’ll tell you why!

the experience is the focus

Pinot & Picasso creates a unique and exciting entertainment experience. We perfectly pair two of life’s simple pleasures – art and wine! With this iconic combination, we bring an unforgettable paint and sip adventure every time our studio doors swing open.

Our business is built on enjoyment, good hospitality, and great customer service with art the supplement to our success.

a side hustle is empowering

Having multiple sources of income can definitely make you feel like a boss in your own right. A side hustle can put more money into your pockets which can help you to pay off any debts, save money and invest into more ventures.

Not only can it bring you economic value, having a side hustle might include learning a new skill, exploring a passion you didn’t know you had, or discovering a different side to you!

Nick Loper, creator of the podcast Side Hustle Nation, believes people look to increase their earning potential outside of their 9 to 5 job because multiple sources of income can build to becoming more self-reliant and self-confident.

side hustle turned new career

There are thousands of stories about people who started a side hustle and then it turned into a full-time career. We’ve also seen at Pinot & Picasso that the once side hustle and full-time job switch roles.

When a side hustle becomes your passion, you set your heart on making it reach its full potential. At Pinot & Picasso, we’ve seen franchisees be allowed to live a flexible lifestyle and make a living thanks to local area marketing, an incredible concept and artworks for all ages that just keep people wanting to come back.

Seeing people make money off the back of doing something they love is one of the most fulfilling things you could ask for in life.

this side hustle can take you places

Considering the rapid growth in franchising, Pinot & Picasso franchisees have had to bite the bullet and look to own a studio remotely. While this may sound like a terrifying thing, we’ve seen incredible success.

Take Rebecca Auld, owner of Pinot & Picasso Bendigo, as a prime example. She couldn’t step foot into the rural community prior to opening her studio, but with strong local area marketing, she sold out her entire opening month.

Another benefit of this is that it gives you the opportunity to travel to a new place and call it your second home. In saying that, you don’t need to actually be there – the digital nature and mobility of our business allows you to operate from anywhere and everywhere.

the proof is in the pudding

There’s a reason Pinot & Picasso is the fastest growing paint and sip franchise in the country. With undoubted support from the Head Office team, they’ll help you make the most of your Pinot & Picasso studio, whether it’s a side hustle or not!

The nature of the sip and paint concept makes this side hustle fun and is why it really becomes a lifetime passion for our franchisees. There’s a reason why about 50% of our franchisees own more than one studio.

Like the idea of a creative, entertaining and exciting side hustle? Learn more about Pinot & Picasso as your next business venture today!

Pinot & Picasso X The Mentor with Mark Bouris!

Pinot & Picasso X The Mentor with Mark Bouris
Pinot & Picasso founders, Aaron Carrasco and James Crowe, sat down with the king of business, Mark Bouris, and recorded an episode on his podcast The Mentor.

As a highly regarded and respected strategic businessman in Australia, Mark Bouris created The Mentor podcast to encourage and tell stories of the unsung heroes; the small entrepreneurial business owners. The Mentor is now one of the top ranked business podcasts in Australia – it’s kind of a big deal!

High-school mates turned business partners, James & Aaron chatted with Mark about what it was like opening Pinot & Picasso in their hometown in Western Sydney, assessing and rationalising risk when deciding to take your first leap in business, and making data-driven decisions.

Pinot & Picasso had rapid franchise growth, due to the popularity and demand for getting away from screens. Pinot & Picasso has become the go-to activity for birthday parties, Hen’s Nights, and catching up with family or friends on the weekend. With several sales funnels, franchisees are able to own their business with the help and support of a team of experts at HQ.

It was incredibly humbling to hear Mark Bouris loves the concept and is planning to take his team to a session in one of our Pinot & Picasso studios this year.

NSW territories may be officially sold out, but join our franchisees that own remotely or find a studio in your state today! Opportunities to franchise across Australia, New Zealand and UK are now available!

Who are Pinot & Picasso? Meet the Team!

Pinot & Picasso HQ
With the year that we’ve had, you might not believe that our team has doubled in size. However, it is an incredible reality for our company and we definitely don’t take it lightly.

With not only studio growth and company expansion into New Zealand, we needed to add more beautiful people to our team but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Pinot & Picasso HQ has transformed into a place where we’re stoked to come into work every day and help bring awareness to our brand and franchisees – I swear I’m saying this on my own and haven’t been told to say this!

It’s a common term said about workplaces, but Pinot & Picasso HQ really is a well-oiled machine. Here’s how:

Marketing is all in-house

One of the biggest decisions we made in 2021 was to bring all aspects of marketing – social media, digital marketing & PR – into one united space. This has allowed us to have full control in these areas but more importantly, we can dedicate so much more of our time to franchisees. We now have 3 full-time employees who devote themselves to building the brand and supporting our franchisees. Our Marketing Team also works very closely with our Creative Team which adds even more strings to our bow and has seen some incredible benefits.

Creative delivers

Speaking of our Creative Team, they continue to deliver top-tier artworks for all types of Picasso’s! This really is one of the reasons customers come to our studios time and time again. With new concepts and ideas bouncing around the walls at HQ, it’s important to keep innovating our studio experience each year. We also give artists from studios across the country a chance to submit their artwork ideas that could be a part of our Artwork Gallery.

The Engine Room has doubled

The team that keeps this machine ticking over has doubled in less than a year. From Franchisee Relations, virtual functions, customer experience, and company store management, this group helps with day-to-day operations and assists our franchisees in becoming the best studio owners they can be!

More training and webinars

With studios continuing to open throughout 2021, we’ve added more training sessions and hosted more webinars to offer more information and support to our franchisees. During lockdown, we thought it was a real opportunity to enhance our studio owners’ knowledge and keep them in the business frame of mind despite not operating. We enhanced their understanding of paid ads & social media trends, pop-ups, preparing for Christmas, and new IT changes. This is something we couldn’t have pulled off without the team we have today!

Have we mentioned New Zealand?

Okay, we might have mentioned NZ once or twice! One of our biggest achievements in 2021 was bringing our unique paint & sip experience across the Tasman to our Kiwi neighbours. We have an amazing Head of NZ Relations (she’s a boss lady and you’ll know why when you meet her!) and an NZ Business Development Manager on the ground to assist our studios. It’s a team that we have no doubt we’ll be saying has tripled (or more!) in the next 12 months.

From our Franchisees to You!

Pinot & Picasso Franchising

Who better to tell you about owning a Pinot & Picasso studio than our lovely franchisees?!

Pinot & Picasso is Australia’s #1 Paint & Sip franchise. Our success on home soil has lead us to world domination! Not quite that… But we are making a name for ourselves in New Zealand, and soon the United Kingdom. If you told us this in 2018, we’d definitely be laughing!

The heart of Pinot & Picasso beats in the Western Sydney suburb of Penrith – the home of our first studio ever and our Head Office. The community of Penrith is one to thank because their love and support has lead us to franchising our unique experience to plenty of incredible territories.

Our franchising journey began in February 2019 in Byron Bay, and it only took us two and a half years to reach the 50 studio milestone. Mind-blowing? Heck yes!

In just over three years of being a company, we opened our first studio in New Zealand. Chur bro! We have loved seeing our Kiwi neighbours enjoy our Pinot & Picasso experience. Next stop: the United Kingdom.

Owning a Pinot & Picasso studio comes with many perks, challenges, and rewards. We’ve had an absolute ball growing our network and have made lifelong friends in business & life.

But enough from us! We’ve spoken to various Franchisees that come from all walks of life. Here are their stories…

FRANCHISEE FOCUS: DEBBIE & KATRINA FROM REDCLIFFE

Pinot & Picasso Redcliffe
Debbie & Katrina took only SIX WEEKS to open their first Pinot & Picasso studio in Redcliffe. Their pure enthusiasm and passion for our lifestyle business drove them to being the ultimate movers and shakers!
We talked to both Debbie & Katrina about their journey so far, their upcoming plans, and what advice they’d give to those thinking about joining the Pinot & Picasso network!

How did you first hear about Pinot & Picasso?

KATRINA: After spending Saturday afternoon looking up franchise opportunities on random websites, Pinot & Picasso popped up as an ad on my Facebook feed later that night – they are always listening! I was immediately interested – not because I can paint but because it sounded like a fun & profitable business!

What convinced you to join Pinot & Picasso as a Franchisee?

KATRINA: After doing all of the Facebook stalking I could on Pinot & Picasso on a Sunday, I told Debbie about it on Monday at work. We decided then and there that it was the business for us and made contact with HQ that day. The biggest convincer for me was that the franchise information said we could have a studio up & running in six weeks… so, that’s what we did!

DEBBIE: I was convinced to join Pinot & Picasso as it was told to me that it’s a ‘lifestyle’ business, and that appealed to me.

You had your first studio up & running in six weeks! What was this process like becoming a Pinot & Picasso Franchisee?

KATRINA: It was a whirlwind and a blur, fuelled by coffee and wine! HQ met our pace and everything was pretty straightforward – they assisted when we needed help, and answered every question we had. We were given comprehensive guides for each step we needed to take in order to open in our desired timeframe. Everything fell into place quite easily. That being said, to save money, we did most of the shop-fit ourselves which was hard work! We completed a huge fit-out, flew to Sydney for a weekend of training at HQ, and hired & trained our staff in six weeks. At the time it was challenging, but looking back it was the most exciting and wonderful time watching it all come together with my bestie – we don’t like to do things slowly!

DEBBIE: The process was exciting. The training was empowering and encouraging – that propelled us to work hard to get it up & running. It was a whirlwind – a lot of planning and trips to Bunnings! It was busy, hot work as we did a lot of the physical work ourselves, and that has brought us alot of satisfaction looking back. All that combined with learning a new business made for a busy time, and having someone to share the workload was invaluable!

What has the community been like towards your studio?

KATRINA: One of the best things about having our studio where it is, is the friendly people and businesses around them. We are amazed how far guests travel to visit our ocean view studio in Redcliffe after someone tells them about us! The view is unbeatable!

We always make sure to be wearing our Pinot & Picasso shirts while out & about, and people stop us to ask about our studio no matter where we are. We have sponsored, supported and donated to every local community group that has reached out to us, and this has created amazing connections with locals.

DEBBIE: We have had great support from the community. The location of our Redcliffe studio has helped – who doesn’t love looking at the ocean? We have been contacted by many local businesses to organise pop-ups and we love being out meeting local businesses too.

What is a typical day for you as Franchisees?

KATRINA: First things first – Pilates followed by coffee! Then, it’s all business (and fun!) until 3pm – answering emails, planning session calendars, Zoom meetings, social media, pop-up venue inspections, staff meetings, long lunches – every day is different! It is generally prosecco time by 4pm! We visit each studio at least once a week – we trust our staff implicitly. Our great team of hosts and artists let us know when something needs attention. We can work as little or as much as we like on any given day, and we always try to have at least three days a week work-free.

DEBBIE: A typical day for us starts with Pilates and coffee! We then put our Franchisee hats on and get on the laptop to answer emails, cover social media, and staff rosters. We try to visit the studios only once a week to check stock, unpack stock, check cleaning, etc. Our staff really look after the studios, so we are very lucky.

You now have two studios, what was that decision like for both of you? Any plans for more?

KATRINA: Absolutely! We said from our very first phone call with HQ that we wanted three studios. We signed on for our second as soon as the dust settled on our first studio, and did it all again! It was a no-brainer and the decision was made together very quickly. It was so much easier the second time as we knew exactly what to do and who to call. We’re still waiting for the dust to settle on studio number two, but number three may not be too far away!

DEBBIE: Once we had completed Redcliffe, we wanted a new challenge. It was always our aim to own two or three studios, so watch this space!

What have been your biggest challenges as Franchise Owners?

KATRINA: Paperwork and number crunching! Not having structured or set work days have been a bit challenging for me, but I am making progress!

DEBBIE: The biggest challenge as a Franchise Owner for me is keeping up with the behind the scenes bookwork. The studio work is easy and a lot of fun, so it is easy to do. Whether it is adding sessions or sending our rosters, setting up for an event or even going into the studios to clean – I enjoy that! I don’t get excited by reconciling receipts, so that is a challenge for me.

Has becoming a Franchisee changed your life, if so how?

KATRINA: All for the better! Owning our own Pinot & Picasso studios has made life much more relaxed, enjoyable and flexible for myself and my family. I have something to be proud of, and I am challenged every day in a positive way. Also, the opportunity to get to know an amazing group of fellow Franchisees with the same goal – to make their studio’s the best they can be. All while having an amazing work and life balance!

DEBBIE: This franchise has given me a better work and life balance – I don’t feel like I am working. I have flexibility in my day and I spend my work life with my best friend, so I am very lucky.

What has been your favourite thing about Pinot & Picasso?

KATRINA: So many things, but first and foremost is the support received from HQ which makes this statement ring true – “you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself”. Having started my own business before, I struggled with the burden of it all being on my shoulders. Being a Franchisee and knowing I have a whole group of talented people to help with every facet of our business brings an incredible sense of calm and confidence – personally and professionally. All that and getting to work with my best friend every day are just a few of my favourite things. I could go on and on! It’s the best thing I have ever done!

DEBBIE: My favourite thing about Pinot & Picasso is that it is a lifestyle business when I know have the best work-life balance where my life is more than my work. Head Office is a great group of people to work with.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying a Pinot & Picasso Franchise?

KATRINA: JUST DO IT! Feel the fear and do it anyway! You won’t regret it – it’s the perfect balance between work and play. I would suggest diving in with a friend so you can share the adventure, the work & fun, the decisions, and make memories together. It has been an amazing ride so far and I am so glad I am part of the family that is Pinot & Picasso!

DEBBIE: I highly recommend this business if you want a fun, happy business to work in that gives your freedom in your everyday life. I strongly recommend having someone to do it with as not only does it share the workload, but you get to enjoy it more when you have someone to share the fun times with too!

Franchisee Focus: Kress & Dave Laguidi

Pinot & Picasso Franchising

Kress Laguidi was a proud and hard-working artist at Pinot & Picasso. Last year, she took off her P&P apron and put on her business woman cap and joined the Pinot & Picasso family as a Franchise Owner!

We chatted with Kress about what her experience as a Franchisee has been like since opening Pinot & Picasso South Coast!

What convinced you to join the Pinot & Picasso as a Franchisee?

“I was working for the Pinot & Picasso Camden team as an artist for a year (since it’s opening in mid-2019) and I loved every minute of it. Everyone always had a good time, whether it was because of the painting or because of the sipping, it didn’t matter! If they had a bad day, that was left at the door and was always such a good vibe.

In 2020, after the COVID lockdown, so many new Pinot & Picasso studios started opening and Dave decided we wanted to be a part of the family.”

What was the process like becoming a P&P Franchisee?

“It was really quick for us. We had a phone meeting with James on the last day of August and by the end of October, we were trading.”

What’s been your favourite thing about Pinot & Picasso?
“The thing I love about Pinot & Picasso is that it is a big family – everyone from HQ, the Franchise owners, and even the staff hosting in the studios. Everyone wants to help everyone out as much as they can and are happy to share ideas. If there is a problem, there is always someone willing to give advice.”

How has your studio been received by your community?
“The South Coast loves having us down there. It is something different for them and something (cultural/entertainment) they don’t have to travel to the cities for. We also have a lot of city folk who are on a weekend escape or holiday who will come to a session.”

Since becoming a Franchise Owner with P&P, what benefits have you seen in life and business?
“Working with Pinot & Picasso is great because there is flexibility with work house. I have 2 small children so I can work early or late to make sure I have time in the day for the,. I am working mostly from our home office and when I am working the sessions with my staff doing pop-ups, we are usually by the beach or looking over rolling hills. It’s pretty hard work… wink wink!

If there was one reason to join P&P, what would it be?
“Pinot & Picasso is creative, fun and flexible. Most importantly, the team is growing and improving as the business is, so HQ has refined operations and expanded even since we started down the coast 8 months ago!”
