Franchisee Focus: Kress & Dave Laguidi

Pinot & Picasso Franchising

Kress Laguidi was a proud and hard-working artist at Pinot & Picasso. Last year, she took off her P&P apron and put on her business woman cap and joined the Pinot & Picasso family as a Franchise Owner!

We chatted with Kress about what her experience as a Franchisee has been like since opening Pinot & Picasso South Coast!

What convinced you to join the Pinot & Picasso as a Franchisee?

“I was working for the Pinot & Picasso Camden team as an artist for a year (since it’s opening in mid-2019) and I loved every minute of it. Everyone always had a good time, whether it was because of the painting or because of the sipping, it didn’t matter! If they had a bad day, that was left at the door and was always such a good vibe.

In 2020, after the COVID lockdown, so many new Pinot & Picasso studios started opening and Dave decided we wanted to be a part of the family.”

What was the process like becoming a P&P Franchisee?

“It was really quick for us. We had a phone meeting with James on the last day of August and by the end of October, we were trading.”

What’s been your favourite thing about Pinot & Picasso?
“The thing I love about Pinot & Picasso is that it is a big family – everyone from HQ, the Franchise owners, and even the staff hosting in the studios. Everyone wants to help everyone out as much as they can and are happy to share ideas. If there is a problem, there is always someone willing to give advice.”

How has your studio been received by your community?
“The South Coast loves having us down there. It is something different for them and something (cultural/entertainment) they don’t have to travel to the cities for. We also have a lot of city folk who are on a weekend escape or holiday who will come to a session.”

Since becoming a Franchise Owner with P&P, what benefits have you seen in life and business?
“Working with Pinot & Picasso is great because there is flexibility with work house. I have 2 small children so I can work early or late to make sure I have time in the day for the,. I am working mostly from our home office and when I am working the sessions with my staff doing pop-ups, we are usually by the beach or looking over rolling hills. It’s pretty hard work… wink wink!

If there was one reason to join P&P, what would it be?
“Pinot & Picasso is creative, fun and flexible. Most importantly, the team is growing and improving as the business is, so HQ has refined operations and expanded even since we started down the coast 8 months ago!”

Franchisee Focus: Danielle Weber

Talented artist Danielle Weber is a proud co-owner of our Pinot & Picasso Malvern studio. The Malvern studio was our first location to open in the state of Victoria, which was incredibly exciting for us! We’ve been stoked to have Danielle onboard with us and we chatted with her about her Pinot & Picasso journey as a Franchisee.

What convinced you to join the Pinot & Picasso as a Franchisee?

“The concept seemed like an innovative way to share my love of creating art with many others in the community. I loved the positive, ‘family’-like vibe the Pinot & Picasso crew presented and the way in which an inclusive, fun environment was created in every session for people of all ages and backgrounds.”

What was the process like becoming a P&P Franchisee?

“We jumped into the partnership together quite naturally, fitting out the space with our combined efforts – so much so I painted the mural celebrating Picasso with a tribute piece to create a vibe conducive to the conviviality of the Pinot & Picasso experience.”

What’s been your favourite thing about Pinot & Picasso?
“Getting feedback from family and friends experiencing the sessions and seeing the enjoyment of the participants week after week, including during the difficult times of 2020.”

How has your studio been received by your community?
“The community has embraced the creation of this space with local traders telling me that it brought a much needed ‘breath of fresh air’ to the precinct and added a much needed vibe to the area. Shoppers often pop in to ask about the classes and admire my artworks. Many locals enjoy a chat and share that they welcome the whole concept to their community. This is the most rewarding aspect of my involvement.”

Since becoming a Franchise Owner with P&P, what benefits have you seen in life and business?
“The biggest benefit has been the opportunity to share the joy of painting with a larger audience. My capacity to share the love of art and the benefits it brings is far greater through these experiences.”

If there was one reason to join P&P, what would it be?
“If you like bringing enjoyment to others, this would be it. Everyone can participate and take something wonderful away with them. All participants are pleasantly surprised that they can produce a work of art, no matter how complex or simple. No one leaves disappointed and the fun to be had is contagious.”

Celebrating Two Years of Franchising

P&P Franchising

It’s been a wild ride since we’ve become a franchising business two years ago. We opened our second studio in Byron Bay in February 2019 and since then, the brand has gone from strength to strength. After a wonderful 24 months, we spent some time reflecting on our biggest achievements here at Pinot & Picasso.

  • Major growth in 24 months

Since opening in February 2019, we’ve sold to over 55 sold territories with 40 studios open for business. Our biggest growth came post-COVID outbreak – much to our surprise! We had a total of 12 studios operating in June 2020. This figure tripled in a six-month time frame and we finished 2020 with 36 studios trading nationwide.

  • Expanding into five states

During these 24 months, we’ve locked ourselves in on becoming a national brand. We have almost sold out ALL locations in NSW. This success meant that launching interstate was less daunting knowing that we have a business model that works. We now have multiple studios in Queensland, Victoria and the ACT, with plans to open studios in South Australia and Western Australia.

  • P&P goes international

The buck doesn’t just stop in Australia. Thanks to the enormous success and growth in 2020, the Pinot & Picasso brand is officially expanding into the international market. We’ve sold three territories across the Tasman already. We could not be more excited to bring the Pinot & Picasso experience to New Zealand.

  • The Pinot & Picasso Art Box

The COVID-19 pandemic brought many unprecedented challenges to businesses. With studios closed due to lockdown, we decided to adapt with the times and released our very own Art Box. We utilised the Facebook Live and Zoom platforms respectively to run virtual sessions on weekends and give people some joy during a tough time. This has since expanded to the company running virtual functions across the country and even overseas.

  • The Pinot App

We updated our business of the digital landscape and developed a Pinot & Picasso App purely for our Franchise Owners. The P&P App allows our franchisee’s to seamlessly manage their studio. From bookings to revenue, the app allows our franchisee’s to work on the run.
